Catholic Charities assists nearly 200,000 people each year. We seek to help with a hand up instead of a hand out but realize at times people's needs are too great. So we try our best to serve families and individuals to the best of our ability and within our financial means. We are frequently asked many questions about our programs. What are your rates for interpreter and translation services?
Oral interpretation rates are hourly and based on interpreter availability and language. Written translations are priced per document depending on word count, language, complexity, format, and deadline. Translated documents have included Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), brochures, employee handbooks,and birth certificates. We will need to view the document to prepare a price quote. How can I become an interpreter?

How do I find child care? Can I use your services as a private paying parent?
Absolutely. Our child care centers are a mix of private and financially assisted families. We pride ourselves in being a multicultural, multilingual and a socioeconomically diverse community. Learn more about our child care here.
How do I get financial assistance for child care?
The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) provides financial assistance to eligible families seeking care at early education and care or out of school time programs. Families must generally meet income and activity requirements to be eligible for EEC financial assistance. Due to limited funding,eligible families may be placed on the EEC waiting list for financial assistance until funding becomes available. Can you help me with food assistance?
Catholic Charities operates five food pantries in Dorchester, the South End of Boston, Brockton, Lowell and Somerville. Please see our basic needs page for location details Food pantries have set schedules so please call in advance to get the hours of operation.
How do I find assistance with my rent and mortgage? Or help with a down payment for an apartment?
Helping people is our mission but we are only able to assist with your housing needs at certain times and in certain conditions. Everyone's situation is unique so we encourage you to call us to explore your options or provide you with a referral to another organization that may be able to help. I am homeless. How do I find shelter?
Catholic Charities shelters are filled by referral by the Department of Housing and Community Development. You can view the Emergency Assistance Housing Field Offices here. Catholic Charities operates an emergency shelter in Somerville. St. Patrick's Shelter for Homeless Women houses 30 women in emergency beds on a night-by-night basis. Do you have classes to help me get my GED?

I am new to this country and would like to learn English, how do I enroll in an ESOL program?
Please call the ESOL program near you to learn about your options and how to enroll.
I have furniture and household goods to donate. Where can I bring them and can you pick them up? How about clothing?
We do not have an outlet to distribute or store home goods or furniture. We encourage you to reach out to some of our other area nonprofits that do just this. We do sometimes receive gently used and new clothing which we often provide to individuals for their job interviews or young children who may need a change of clothes during their day or a warm coat. We also try to provide our young campers a new back to school outfit at the end of their camp session.
