As we approach the holiday season, it is easy to lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas and why we celebrate the day. The cacophony of consumerism makes it too easy to forget that Christmas is about the humble birth of the Boy King. Jesus was the greatest gift we’ve ever received, and this year, Catholic Charities is redoubling its efforts to the live the word and truth of that gift. During these tough economic times, they are witness to the mission of Christ through their own charitable work. In September alone, the agency served just shy of 7,000 individuals with food, utility and rental assistance. This season, they are providing a refreshing alternative to the “holiday gala” with a genuine celebration of Christmas.
