Frequently Asked Questions

What are your rates for interpreter and translation services?
Oral interpretation rates are hourly and based on interpreter availability and language. Written translations are priced per document depending on word count, language, complexity, format, and deadline. Translated documents have included Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), brochures, employee handbooks, and birth certificates. We will need to view the document to prepare a price quote. Please call 617-464-8100 or e-mail cis_request@ccab.org for more specific rate information.

Are your interpreters trained?
Our interpreters are highly skilled at their language and are often native speakers. Many of them are college educated and have held professional careers in their native countries. Some are certified and all are encouraged to attend and participate in regular training sessions.

How much in advance do I need to schedule an interpreter?
Typically, it is best to request an interpreter as soon as you are aware of your need for one. This helps verify the interpreter's availability. However, many times we have been able to provide an interpreter within a 24-hour notice based on availability and language.

What if I need to cancel a scheduled appointment?
Please give us as much advance notice as possible in order to notify the interpreter by calling 617-464-8100 or e-mailing cis_request@ccab.org. We do charge a late cancellation fee with less than 24-hour notice as interpreters had already committed to that appointment.

We work with sensitive client information. How will I be guaranteed that it will remain confidential?
Interpreters follow a strict code of confidentiality and ethical standards regarding all appointments. Our interpreters have signed the Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act (HIPAA) form for medical appointments. You can also ask the interpreter to sign your internal confidentiality form.

I like working with a specific interpreter, can I use that person for the next appointment?
While we cannot guarantee that a specific interpreter will be assigned to your request, we will make every effort to see if we can accommodate your preference. In general, we have had great success in handling such requests as many of our clients have developed a strong working relationship with certain interpreters.

How can I become an interpreter?
Please send your resume to cis_request@ccab.org or call 617-464-8100. We will then schedule an interview with you based on our need and your background.
