Family Counseling and Guidance Centers

Catholic Charities’ Family Counseling and Guidance Centers (FCGC) provide a comprehensive, integrated continuum of quality care for people struggling with life issues such as substance abuse and mental health difficulties. Tailored to meet each individual’s specific needs, treatment is provided by master’s level clinicians and is supervised by a multi-disciplinary treatment team composed of psychiatrists, clinical social workers, psychologists, substance abuse specialists, licensed mental health clinicians, and clinical nurse specialists. Clinical services are backed by 24-hour coverage with a clinical supervisor on call to respond to client emergencies.

Outpatient Counseling

Individuals, couples, and family counseling is available for children, adolescents, and adults to help with difficulties including depressed or anxious feelings, troubling behaviors, life changes, trauma, and relationship issues. Most insurances are accepted including Mass Health. For those uninsured, payments are available on a sliding scale. For more information, call:

Counseling services are available for youth and adults in order to help them overcome barriers that may prevent them from achieving their educational goals. Counseling may help them deal with instability in their living arrangements, lack of support from family members, absence of structure in their lives, stress, or depression. Often, counseling will improve their self-esteem and help them move further towards self-sufficiency. For more information, call:

Search Out Another Road (SOAR)

Search Out Another Road (SOAR) provides reintegration services to assist ex-offenders transitioning into their communities from the moment of exit from the penal institution. Transitions are provided to employment, education, substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, and to stable housing for homeless clients. SOAR is a community-based program for any county, state, or federal inmate, male or female, returning to Brockton. It also accepts referrals from the Brockton District and Superior Courts Probation Departments. The program has expanded to provide intensive case management with young people at risk for incarceration with referrals coming from the juvenile courts, schools, and providers in the community. SOAR has assisted more than 500 ex-offenders reintegrate back into society.

Substance Abuse Prevention

A program of the Boston Public Health Commission, this campaign exists to inform students, their family members, and other South End residents of the problems of substance abuse, especially heroin and other opioid use. The program empowers parents to address the problems of substance abuse with their children, fosters open dialogue among parents and children about the harmful effects of addiction and substance abuse, and helps parents and teens develop drug resistance skills. El Centro del Cardenal is a member of the South End No Drugs Coalition along with several agencies, neighborhood associations, teens and young adults, South End residents, and community centers, all committed to ending substance abuse.
