The Foster Grandparents Program is a volunteer program based in Somerville that connects caring elders with children. In a school setting, the elders tutor students from pre-school age through high school. The participants of this program, both the senior citizens and those they tutor, benefit from the positive interaction and intergenerational friendships.
Foster Grandparents’ volunteers are trained to provide developmentally-appropriate help, to work with special needs children, and to bring positive reinforcement to their work. Whether reading together with a young child, helping a middle-schooler with a math problem, or just being there to provide needed encouragement, Foster Grandparents make a difference in children’s lives.
The Foster Grandparents Program is a program of Catholic Charities Greater Boston. For more information, call 617-625-1920.
