HOMEWORK HELP. TUTORING. MENTORING.
GROUP ACTIVITIES. SPORTS. FIELD TRIPS. TECHNOLOGY.
Mondays to Thursdays, 3pm to 6pm

Youth Tutoring Youth (YTY) provides a free after-school program to South Boston students. Teen Leaders ages 15 to 18 help younger students in grades 3 through 5 with tutoring, homework help, mentoring, exercise, reading, writing, math and confidence in decision making. The program provides a safe place for youth to spend after school hours while instilling a sense of belonging and fostering a heightened level of academic achievement.

A summer daytime session provides students with remedial and academic skills-sustaining instruction, ensuring that they are prepared to return to school in the fall.

Academic Support
100% of YTY parents surveyed felt that their children had improved their academic abilities in math, reading, and writing.  YTY youth will experience:

  • Individual attention - YTY’s trained Teen Leaders work with three students per session. Our priority is to give each student the homework help and individualized skills practice needed to improve school performance and be a better learner.
  • Small class size - YTY’s enrollment is limited to 20 students so that no child at the program will be overlooked. Individual students’ needs and personalities are incorporated into daily activities.
  • Balance of structure and choice - YTY’s programming balances structured times such as tutoring and planned group activities with free choice times.

Behavioral Improvement
YTY has 1 staff member for every 3 students! 100% of parents surveyed agreed that YTY helped improve their child’s social skills and their child’s ability to resist negative peer pressure. Trained teen staff guide students and serve as role models. students receive an hour of homework help and academic support each day from trained tutors.

Field Trips & Activities
At YTY, children expand their cultural and educational horizons by going on monthly field trips and participating in fun, intentionally designed activities like: ice skating, museum visiting, involvement in community gardens, beat-boxing, bowling, painting, and Zumba.
