What is Friends Feeding Families?

Monday, October 19, 2020

Catholic Charities of Boston (CCAB) proudly operates five different food pantries across Eastern Massachusetts to distribute food to those in our communities who face food insecurity. Food insecurity is particularly on the rise now as we continue responding to the economic impacts of COVID-19. In fact, CCAB has distributed over 1.5 million lbs. of food just since March.

Friends Feeding Families is a year-round program to help end hunger by rallying members if our communities to provide food for our neighbors in need. It is meant to shine a light on the issue of food insecurity in our area, while raising critical donations in the form of food and grocery store gift cards.  We rely on community support to help those who need us, and joining us in Friends Feeding Families is a great way to get involved with CCAB and support your local communities.

In the spirit of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, you can give back to your community. Ways to get involved with Friends Feeding Families:

Host a Brown Bag Party in your Home, School or Work
Encourage your friends and family to join you in getting involved in our mission to feed our neighbors in need. Invite them to support our food pantries by bringing a bag of groceries to your home, work or school, or by purchasing gift cards. There are fun perks to hosting, too! To learn more about hosting a brown bag party, please contact Holly Clark at holly_clark@ccab.org.

Fill a Brown Bag with Groceries
Fill a bag with nonperishable foods from the list below and we’ll make sure it is given to a neighbor in need. Every donation is important!

Gift Card Collections
Host a Gift Card Collection at your company or organization. Our food pantries use gift cards to supplement donated food and to replenish high-demand items. Donated gift cards, in any denomination, are always appreciated.

Items in highest demand at our five food pantries:

- Canned Beans and Vegetables

- Dry Beans

- Cereal and Oatmeal

- Mashed/instant potatoes

- Peanut Butter and Jelly

- Rice or healthier substitutes.

- Snacks

Food can be brought (or shipped via Amazon) to any of our five food pantries. Gift cards may be delivered to our Yawkey Center. Please call ahead to arrange donation drop offs:
