A COVID-19 Update: Basic Needs

Friday, October 16, 2020

Seven months into the COVID-19 global health crisis, Catholic Charities of Boston continues to see the lasting economic impacts of the pandemic on a daily basis.  Just since March, our five food pantries have distributed over 1.5 million lbs. of food to our community members in need, often serving hundreds of people in a single day. Our Basic Needs department has seen a signifant increase in people looking for living assistance with rent, mortgage, heat and utility payments. Typically, we serve about 13,000 people annually with holiday food and gift assistance. With the holiday season quickly approaching, we anticipate that this number will be much higher, as many of our neighbors will be turning to us to help them get through the holidays and beyond. The pandemic has affected each and every person across the country in some form, but has been especially hard on those most vulnerable in our communities.

To ensure that we have the financial means to continue supporting our neighbors in need, we need your help now more than ever.  Please consider making a donation today that will go directly back into our programs and services to help people in our community with life’s most basic necessities.  Whether you have $10 or $1,000 to give, each and every dollar is crucial to the work that we do to help those who need us.
