Catholic Charities Boston’s Services Are a Family Affair for Stephania and Her Children

Working at a Lynn-area hair salon, there are plenty of topics Stephania discusses with her clients. And one topic she really enjoys talking about is Catholic Charities Boston.

The agency’s services in Lynn have become a significant part of Stephania’s family’s life, especially for her and her two children. As a working mom, she needed child care for her kids and learned about Catholic Charities Lynn Child Care. While her oldest is moving on to public school this year, her youngest remains at the child care center.

“My children love it, and I love it too,” explained Stephania. “It is wonderful to see how the teachers interact with the children.”

And those salon chats about Catholic Charities’ child care have led to positive results.

“I talk about Catholic Charities all the time,” she said. “For example, a client recently asked about where my children go to day care, and I told them all about Catholic Charities, and now her family goes there.”

It was also through the Lynn Child Care staff that Stephania found her own connection to Catholic Charities Boston through English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses. A native Haitian Creole speaker, she completed her first level earlier this year and will continue with classes this fall.

“I like it because I learned a lot of things that I didn’t know before, and now I will learn more,” Stephania explained. “The most challenging part has been the pronunciations, just because they are new to me.”
