‘We take a ton of pride in this partnership:’ BC Student-Athletes Pack 3,000 Meal Bags for Catholic Charities Thanksgiving Distribution

This week, for the fourth year in a row, over 250 student-athletes from Boston College gathered outside Alumni Stadium to stock 3,000 meal bags that will be distributed to Catholic Charities Boston’s annual Thanksgiving Meal Distributions, which run from November 22 to November 25.

Kenny Francis, Assistant Athletic Director for Student Athlete Formation and Success at Boston College, said the event has become a cherished tradition for the student-athletes that embodies Boston College’s deep commitment to serving others and empowering those most in need.

“Catholic Charities Boston does a lot of work that supports those on the margins,” said Kenny. “We take a ton of pride in this partnership and the impact we are able to have. We want to make sure everyone experiences a thanksgiving full of dignity and joy.”

Over 20 athletic teams stepped up to participate, along with a group of administrative staff, with each team collectively competing to pack the highest number of bags and load them into the delivery truck.

“To give back to the community we now all call home is really special and heartwarming,” said Lauren Schramm, a junior on the BC women’s rowing team who is majoring in communications. “It’s a good bonding experience for everyone. We can give back to those most in need while also having fun and making a difference.”
