GBH: 40% of Mass households has trouble paying for food last year, report shows

WGBH recently highlighted the Greater Boston Food Bank’s latest food insecurity report, which found that hunger hit a record high last year. Catholic Charities Vice President Jonathan Tetrault spoke on what food pantries across the agency are seeing and the rising numbers of families reaching out for assistance.

“Demand obviously went up during COVID, during the pandemic. There was a huge increase in the number of households [and] individuals needing assistance for food,” Tetrault said. “And then the pandemic went away, sort of went out of the headlines, and everybody thought, ‘Oh, we’re good.’ We’re not.”
