In the Boston Globe: ‘You can’t go to sleep when your stomach is growling’

The Boston Globe recently highlighted the growing crisis of food insecurity as threatened cuts to federal food access programs coincide with a surging demand at local food pantries. Catholic Charities Boston’s Yawkey Food Pantry in Dorchester was named among the pantries experiencing more families reaching out for help.

“I can survive. But there’s certain things, you know, there’s certain things that you need,” said one Catholic Charities pantry client, Lizette Brown, who said the pantry helps her to feed her children and grandchildren. ”You [can’t] to go to sleep [when] your stomach is growling.”

The article also featured Jonathan Tetrault, Vice President of Basic Needs, who spoke to the increased need Catholic Charities Boston staff are witnessing firsthand at the food pantries and in the community every day.

“Not only are more people needing support, but the people that have been coming to us are needing to come more frequently,” Jonathan said.

As food insecurity continues to impact 1 in 3 Massachusetts residents, Catholic Charities Boston remains committed to serving as a safety net and a beacon of hope for families in need.
