Catholic Charities Boston Honors Mental Health Awareness Month

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month – a time to pause and reflect on the crucial role of mental health resources in our communities. At Catholic Charities Boston, we are committed to supporting every client’s mental health and ensuring that all families and individuals have the support they need to get back on their feet and thrive.
The Family Counseling and Guidance Center
With offices in South Boston and Salem, MA, the Family Counseling and Guidance Center offers professional, comprehensive outpatient counseling, substance use disorder counselling, and psychiatry for individuals managing challenges ranging from everyday stressors to chronic and persistent mental illness. In 2024 alone, the center provided a total of 7,052 counselling services to roughly 307 returning clients.
All treatments are provided by master’s level clinicians and are supervised by a multidisciplinary team. Services are available in-person at the Labouré Center, at our site in Salem, via telehealth, and in schools, with most insurance plans accepted.
Comprehensive Care for Youth, Families, and Seniors
Catholic Charities recognizes the importance of early intervention. From offering play therapy tailored to children’s developmental needs, to providing social events and support groups to young parents in programs like Healthy Families and Family Support Services, the agency strives to provide a holistic approach that benefits the whole family. Counseling services are available to children as young as three years old.
Additionally, the agency’s Elder Outreach Program provides free social support, counseling, home visits, assessments, outreach, education, and consultation to individuals living in Plymouth County and within South Boston’s BHA-funded elderly housing.
Healing through Connection
The Recovering Connections program at the Labouré Center helps individuals with loved ones impacted by addiction. The program supports nearly 90 people every year through case management, group support, social events, and healing retreats.
A Holistic Approach
Understanding that mental health is deeply tied to our basic human needs, Catholic Charities also offers food assistance, housing, childcare, workforce development opportunities, and more. By addressing the broader factors affecting wellness, the agency aims to empower clients to build stable, healthier lives.
