Catholic Charities Boston and United Way Host Community Baby Shower at Yawkey Center

The average disposable diaper costs $0.29 in the United States, less than a pack of gum. While that may not seem like much, the costs quickly add up when taking into account the average baby goes through approximately 6,000 diapers in their first two years of life.

The pervasive impact of the pandemic has led the price of diapers to skyrocket by 12% over the past two years. Today, one in three families in the U.S are struggling to provide their children with these everyday staples, according to the National Diaper Bank Network.

To address this rising need, Catholic Charities Boston is partnering with United Way to host a Community Baby Shower on May 7th at the Yawkey Center, where parents will have the opportunity to register and receive a gift package with essential baby products. These gifts will include one case of diapers, one pack of wipes, one gift card and one baby Basic bag, containing a onesie, blanket, stuffed animal, wash cloth, bottle, baby lotion, shampoo, outlet cover and a cabinet lock.

“We are honored to be a distribution site for the United Way Community Baby Shower again this year. It gives families opportunities to learn about great community resources,” said CCAB Office Manager Sabrina Boisaubin.

Those interested in participating must be expecting or have an infant up to six months of age and are kindly encouraged to sign up here before the deadline of April 21st. Families unable to join us in person can also register for our virtual event here. To learn more, please contact Sabrina Boisaubin at sabrina_boisaubin@ccab.org.
